The 3500/22M frame interface module is the basic interface to connect to the 3500 frame. It supports Bentley Nevada proprietary protocols and is used as a configuration framework and to collect machine information. The RIM must be installed in a slot in the frame (next to the PSU).

RIM provides a connection that supports current Bentley Nevada communications processors (External Transient Data Interface TDIX and External Dynamic Data Interface DDIX).

RIM uses two types of I/O modules, the Framework Interface I/O module and the data management I/O module. These I/O modules allow you to connect the main computer and communication processor to the 3500 frame, and only one frame interface I/O module can be installed at a time behind the RIM(disk or rack frame) or on top of the RIM(wall-mounted frame).

For 3500 monitoring systems, the two effective frame interface I/O modules are the RS-232/RS-422I/O module and the modem I/O module. The following features are common to both types of I/O modules.

Part of the Bently Nevada 3500 Series mechanical protection system, the latest addition to the 3500 Series of Functional safety (FS) products also includes overspeed detection, radial vibration, thrust position, housing vibration, temperature and process variable input monitors. The Bently Nevada protection system contributes to significantly enhanced safety by initiating automatic shutdown of critical production machinery and early detection of system characteristics before dangerous failures.
